Divorce and Separation: 3. Confusion Part Two
In my last post, Divorce and Separation: 2. Confusion Part One, I wrote about how in the early days of separation and divorce, along with the early stages of grief comes continual waves of confusion. This confusion is fuel for poor mental health, as we continually question the past, present and future - our actions taken, the ones we're taking, and the steps yet to be taken. The thick 'brain fog' that clouds our days - even the good ones - is part of the season of confusion.
Today I want to continue discussing the theme of confusion, in relation to the early days of separation and divorced, as it really is a deep and complex topic. We must be so careful to care for ourselves during this time because confusion, if not carefully managed, can lead some people to lose hope and even fall into despair. The enemy, will often try to set loose a confusion plague in your mind which can lead you to feel anxious and panic stricken. During these times, it may lead some people to return to former, old bad-habits which only add to the problem. People's poor choices can add to perpetuating problems, creating a quicksand that dragging people down - the quicksand of poor mental health.
In my first post in this series, Divorce and Separation: 1. The Beginning of an Ending, I gave some basic daily, practical self-care tips for during the early stages of grief. In Divorce and Separation: 2. Confusion Part One I wrote about how scripture is a healing balm for our mind, emotions, and soul. In this post I want to discuss the important premise of how we can stand on scriptural promises to help us through the thick fog of confusion. Three really important scriptures that have helped me so much through the days of confusion and waiting for clarity are the following:
Luke 8:17 'For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.'
This verse has truly brought me so much comfort in times of deep distress and confusion, in that I know clarity will come, in the right time for me. I believe, from experience that God cares so much for us, He will only allow so much at any certain time. The unanswered questions will become know in a time which He allows for our well-being. Perhaps you will one day have the answers to your questions which right now, confuse you so much. It may be months or years away, or maybe you will be spared knowing until after this life has passed.Jeremiah 29:11 'For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future".'
When we do not have clarity, we can trust God does.
When we do not have the answers, we can trust God does.
When we do not understand, we can trust God does.
When others hurt and betray us, we know God will not.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."
Even when we feel we are sinking in the quicksand of confusion, we know that God can use these times of suffering for good. These times can help us learn more deeply about His love, faith, perseverance and healing. They can also help us in the future have true empathy and understanding for others experiencing deep suffering.
We always will retain our free will and the ability to choose. We can choose if we will become a victim of our circumstances, or a victor over them through Christ Jesus. We can let ourselves be a living testimony to His real power, or to let sin win the victory over us.
Remember during times of confusion, the truth is we may not always make the right decision as it's hard, really hard at times to gain the clarity we need. However when seeking His perfect will for us, don't forget He is all-knowing, so He is able to make room for our free will...so try not to become overwhelmed. It's easy to feel like all the choices now rest on your shoulders, and the future depends upon each and every action you take.
But it will be okay and clarity will come in time - So be patient with yourself.
Pray asking for clarity and open or shut doors, read your bible, listen to Christian music and seek trusted, godly council. It will be okay.
Peace be with you.
